Web Accessibility Statement
Spokane Transit Authority is committed to providing a website and digital services that are accessible and usable for all riders, including people with disabilities.
STA is actively working to improve the accessibility of our website, documents, online forms, and rider tools to meet the requirements of the Department of Justice’s recent ruling on the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). As STA is designated as a special district, we are required to meet WCAG 2.1 AA standards of web accessibility by April 24, 2028.
Our Commitment
STA is working hard to make our website and digital assets accessible. Our work includes:
- Auditing and remediating public-facing documents and webpages
- Improving keyboard navigation and screen reader compatibility
- Enhancing color contrast, headings, labels, and form accessibility
- Testing with assistive technologies including JAWS and NVDA screen readers
- Training staff across departments on accessible document and web practices
- Working with vendors and developers to improve accessibility in third-party tools and plugins
This work is part of a long-term accessibility initiative currently underway across STA’s digital services.
Accessibility Features
Our website includes features intended to improve usability for all riders, including:
- Responsive layouts for mobile and desktop devices
- Keyboard-accessible navigation
- Alternative text for meaningful images
- Structured headings and descriptive links
- Accessible PDFs and Word documents where possible
- Language translation tools
- Ongoing improvements to forms, alerts, maps, and rider information pages
Known Limitations
Some areas of the website may not yet fully meet accessibility standards. Certain third-party plugins, maps, embedded tools, and older PDF documents continue to require remediation or replacement. We are actively identifying and addressing these issues as part of our accessibility roadmap.
