Situation
STA is shifting Thursday, June 15, and Friday, June 16, to operate as a non-EWU regular session service day, canceling or altering six of the eight routes that serve Cheney and EWU. Service levels will operate the same as during EWU’s summer session.
The cancellations are in response to the ongoing shortage of operators – an industry-wide issue STA has been, and will be, actively addressing through hiring and training until service level needs are met.
Ridership Considerations
Last spring, the average daily ridership for the eight routes serving EWU’s main campus in Cheney totaled 1,841. Ridership on the Thursday of finals week, June 16, 2022, was 1,227, 33% lower than the weekday average for the quarter. On Friday, June 27, 2022, ridership on these routes totaled 950, 48% less than the weekday average for the quarter. These numbers in no way disregard the impact to those riders who will be required to find alternative bus routes to Cheney on these two days. STA apologizes for the inconvenience.
