Surplus Van Grant Program

2024 Surplus Van Grant Program Update

Every year since 2011 Spokane Transit has granted up to ten vans being retired from service to community recipients.

The actual number of vehicles designated for the grant program is determined by a variety of factors, including STA’s fleet needs, the remaining useful life of the individual vehicle, forecasted replacement vehicle orders, and more.

After a careful and thoughtful review of STA’s fleet, no vehicles are being made available for the Surplus Van Grant Program in 2024.

We are optimistic that vehicles will be available in 2025, and encourage all eligible companies, organizations, or local governments to check back here in June 2025 for updates.

2023 Surplus Van Grant Recipients

Congratulations to our 2023 Surplus Van Grant recipients! And thank you to all of the organizations that applied for a vehicle last year! With much deliberation, the following organizations were awarded a van in 2023 (in alphabetical order):

Please mark your calendar for June 2025 to check back here for updates on our 2025 inventory of surplus vans.

Program Background

At the regular board meeting July 20, 2011, Spokane Transit’s Authority approved the Surplus Van Grant Program to meet unmet transportation needs of organizations by granting up to 10 vehicles that have reached their useful life to human service organizations. In 2023, STA is pleased to be able to grant six 15-passenger Rideshare by Spokane Transit* vans to organizations to enhance transportation services provided within Spokane’s Public Transportation Benefit Area (PTBA).

*Rideshare by Spokane Transit was formerly known as Vanpool.

Eligibility

Private companies, organizations, or local governments within the PTBA that serve individuals who have disabilities, are older adults, and/or live on limited incomes are eligible to apply. Organizations that are awarded a vehicle must commit to ridership reporting for one year in order to maintain ownership of the granted vehicle.

Questions about eligibility, limits of the PTBA, and other questions about the program should be directed to [email protected] or call (509) 343-1674.
